This is a short video showing how I have set up my XBMC on Windows XP to start when Windows starts.
As you can see, I've modified my BIOS logo to show the old XBMC splash logo, and I've also modified my Windows ntoskrnl.exe to show an XBMC logo when WIndows loads. Windows is loading EventGhost as the "shell" so I have remote control support, and EventGhost in turn loads XBMC. Time to XBMC is about 25 seconds. Sorry for the terrible quality.

  • My post on how to do the Windows XP logo is post number 379779 on the XBMC forums.

  • YouTube won't let me post links to other websites. That's really irritating.

Go to the XBMC forum and search for CBROM, and look for posts by waldo22 (me)

  • @gyengez

Instructions are available on the wiki here:

    BIOS Logo instructions:

Windows Logo instructions (for XP, don't know about other OSes)

  • this is just what I am looking for, is this possible to do on linux?

if on windows can I do this with an acer revo atom nettop?

The xbmc logo in your video looks grainy, can it be higher quality?

    Many thanks in advance

  • The first logo is a BIOS logo, so that should be possible on any board that supports BIOS logo replacements, regardless of the OS. The other logo replaced the Windows startup logo, so that would only be possible on Windows. BIOS logos can only be 256 colors, so it can't look much better...

  • @wesleykins Do you know any boards (or mainboard manufacturer in general) that support it?

  • @hubfred all Asus boards support the BIOS logo replacement with their MyLogo software, but many other support it as well. This is on a Zotac board, so I had to use CBROM (a BIOS module editor) to do it. Also, I missed your question from last Sept. Sorry. I used a program called "Resource Hacker" to replace the logo in ntoskrnl.exe. Worked really well. -Wes

  • could you add a detailed tutorial on XBMC forums? THX

  • do you have instructions on how to do this? thx

  • chekiraut, it itsnt that difficult

When your mobo supports mylogo (asus) you can replace the boot logo easy, and the XP boot logo can be done with bootskin( have done this also myself)
