"Exploration Into the Art of Children's Literature". Do you have a story to tell? Have you ever been inspired to create your own children's book? Taos artist and national award winning children's book illustrator, Amy Cordova, will introduce participants to the basics of forming a children's book from development of story , to layout, to illustration. Through music, visualization exercises, meditative time and play, participants will write, edit, create layout and draw/ paint to begin illustration to develop one's own story for children. Each student will create a "dummy" copy of their story during our time together. Come with your ideas, laptop ( not necessary but useful ), large sketchbook, a few sheets of fine paper for the illustrations, and your choice of colored pencils, pastels or acrylics to assemble the rough copy , as well as, any text you may have begun , no matter the stage of development. May 23-27.

"The Retablo as a Personal Affirmation". Four hundred years ago, Spanish settlers created works of art to express their spirituality. Over the centuries, these folk artists developed a unique style that today is collected around the world in the form of antique and contemporary paintings and carvings. This experience immerses you in the rich customs and history of the region as you paint a retablo, a painted wooden tablet that traditionally depicts religious figures. However, you will draw upon your individual history and your dreams to create a personal retablo that commemorates the archetypal figures that influence your life. In addition to providing you with individual artistic assistance, Amy will guide you through meditations and special colors, ancestors and spirit animals to help you access imagery that is important to you. All levels welcome. June 20-24.
