12 Inch museum grade plasma globe showing a surreal and high-intensity turquoise blue octopus effect. Every now and then I need to set aside the hectic energy that follows me home from work and bring a few moments of serenity into my free time. This is a Light Sculpture edition called "Modern Frequencies" designed by Bill Parker in 1984 that fulfills that purpose, and I thought my friends on YouTube would like to see it. It has the brightest blue color of any plasma globe in my collection with violet tints my camera cannot quite capture. I literally need to back up about ten feet away for my optic nerves to recognize how blue it is. The original electronics were adjusted to show this serene blue pattern. A late friend told me the globe contains a high percentage of ultrapure xenon with trace amounts of other ingredients to enhance the color. It is also the same edition of plasma globe seen briefly in the bedroom of Ferris Buhler's friend Cameron in the movie Ferris Buhler's Day Off. Please watch in high quality if possible.

  • Thank you. I attached a UV filter to try to capture the bright blue in this one but the intensity of the light in places still saturates the camera for this globe and for some of the other globes as well. Perhaps if I include something within the frame for the camera to refer to for a white balance I might get better results. I have some ideas, so I will have to try some experiments to see If I can get better results next time.

  • Painted Rock - great track.

  • Very nice.

  • Always my favourite color! That's a superb example of this series. It looks nice, bright and tightly controlled.

  • Very nice, I like the slow ones. It is a shame that the cameras never pick up the exact color, or that they never come close to doing the real thing justice!

  • One of the best, man, love it.
