How do you get out of x server so I can install my nvidia driver?

You don't need envy-ng above I list the method I used to install my driver on my ubuntu 8.04.1 pc but I started with a fresh install. And I'm using NVIDIAs newest 173.80 driver it's absolutely flawless compared to any other driver I've used so far! I just don't understand why they couldn't attempt to figure out how to install it on ubuntu and list the instructions in the readme!! It's easy!

I went a different route like Nvidias driver from their site and saved it to the desktop for ubuntu 8.04.1 32 or 64.Using synaptic I added binutils, gcc automake,glibc-source,libc6-de
v.For 64 bit add 2 more libc6-i386,libc6-dev-i386. Then ctrl+alt+F1 ,login , cd ~/Desktop name of file , chmod +x name of file , sudo su root, /etc/init.d/gdm stop , sudo ./name of file. Follow instructions hit yes to every one and when it says it's complete ctrl+alt+del to restart it should show NVIDIA logo on load.
just shut up
