Rock fishing Monterey Bay out of the Santa Cruz Pier. We rented the boat with a 8hp engine from http://capitolaboatandbait.com/ . It costs $75 for the day (7:00-3:00). We caught live bait with Sabiki rigs, and also used frozen anchovies, shrimp, and squid. I was fishing a live smelt on the bottom and hooked into a monster, but my 25-lb fluorocarbon leader splintered at the hook. It was pretty rough and cold today. Don't forget the Dramamine.
