According to the bible, Yahweh set up a system where adam and eve had no choice but to sin, then condemned the entire human race including the unborn for all eternity with eternal torture. Then he set up an "option": Serve him utterly and completely, dedicating your entire life to him, or be tortured forever.
Slavery or eternal torture.
Just looking at it as a story, imagining it to be true... that's clearly a villain, and his followers are clearly slaves.
@NewEarthCitizen [Continued] You're comparing a scientific theory that has a ton of evidence to back up its claim and that is widely accepted as fact in a comunity of people who's job it is to work out fact from fiction and report their findings verses a book that is considered fictional even by its own writer and has a following of teen girls who like the main character or one of the other characters enough to fawn over them? Are you really taking this debate seriously anymore?
@NewEarthCitizen Firstly I never said it was backed up by science, I said it was backed up by evidence then gave you an example of where to find said evidence. Secondly, as an answer to your previous question, no I do not have to believe in Evolution, the fact that I consider it the correct answer based on evidence has no relevance on weather or not I have to believe it or not. Also that's the worst comparison I've ever heard...[Continued]
@Ryakki How am I being a slave? He saved me from my own sin and punishment. He made me special and awesome, just like every other person. He has a reward for me waiting in Heaven. If you haven't read Heaven by Randy Alcorn, you won't understand my joy for Heaven. Pursuing Christ and exploring the universe and its secrets is very fun for me too, especially if you look at it from the right prospective. Sure I love my family but I make God my foundation because He saved me from sin, not my parents.
@knotnelikeb4 I have typed so many responses, my brain is in overdrive with lots of outside work as well, what was the question, because I don't get your answer.
@DanteDeshar Evolution. You say that it is backed up by science but the Twilight series is also backed by millions of teen girls and that doesn't mean you have to believe it. Do you believe evolution or not?
You don't need to be a slave to the supernatural in any way shape or form to live a rewarding life. In fact, I find one of the most rewarding things in life gaining knowledge and understanding of how the universe really works, and you don't get that from reading fiction.
You can find reward from helping other people. From enjoying your hobbies. From proficiency at your job. From a good family life. From learning.
The supernatural isn't a requirement in any of those.
@NewEarthCitizen I'm starting to like you - that is the perfect question to ask.
Answer: Those people would be writing columns for the National Inquirer, jokes for Playboy and episodes of "Land of the Lost". There would be no need for bible writers at all...however, there might have been a market for a bible series and subsequent movie deal - with Brad Pitt as Jesus H. Christ, Jon Stewart as God, Bill Maher as Moses etc.
@DanteDeshar Yes, but you have to believe it. My teachers can tell me lots of things but I have to believe what they are telling me is true, do I not?
