One of the label variations..........you can see this has "Classic" on the label but it's identical in every other way to the Pearce 5823 release. 1st release was Pearce #5818. I'm guessing this is a 3rd press, unless released at the same time as Pearce 5823?

  • how come the one song that I really remember and associate with the classmen, 'graduation goodbye' isn't on here anywhere? I remember hearing that song every may for 4-5 years during the late 60s on whb and kudl in kansas city where i grew up.

  • @4058153 The other side of this 45. It's available to download on Grumpy's Golden Oldie archive blog.

  • My father Drew Dimmel sang lead and played bass on this track. Thanks for posting it!

Don't know if I'd call them a "frat" band - they were actually more of a Beatles-ish 4-person group (at least during the 60s) but with an emphasis on vocal harmonies. You're right that this track stands out from the others - there actually were a few other tracks that had a similar "soul" feel to this one, but I don't think they were released as singles.

  • Your fathers voice is just fantastic on this song. Would be amazing to hear those other tracks...what happened to them?

  • According to the label your father also produced this song........so great work all around.

  • @4058153 i'll totally post that in the next couple weeks! my father was in The Classmen :)

  • soulen!!!

  • Wonderful to hear this, what a voice! They don't make songs like this now. Wish they did!

  • Thanks much for the praise! Drew's just glad that people still appreciate it 40 years later. Anyway, yep, he took care of their arrangements/production, although he may have had a hand in writing this one as well (can't remember).

I've posted a few of their other tracks on my profile that were sort of in a similar vein to this one. Drew didn't sing on ALL their songs, but he did most of the more "soulful" vocals, while Denny and/or Dave sang on the rest of their material.

  • Nice Post,Great Harmonys on This..........

  • Sweet!
