I remember watching an episode of Patty Duke with a friend quite a few years back. He made a comment that made me laugh so hard I almost started to choke. The comment was "it looks like she used a (rubber sex device) to roll her hair".
The commercial is for the original Rinse Away dandruff rinse, which came out around 1958 or so. ("Rinse Away starts working where your shampoo stops," 0:17) Alberto-Culver made a Rinse Away dandruff shampoo somewhere in the mid-'60s, but it--and another dandruff shampoo called Subdue--but both bombed within a year of their introductions. Rinse Away itself faded when hair concerns shifted from dandruff to "the frizzies," "the greasies," etc....

Does anyone have the 1971 Rinse Away ad "Get dandruff of your back"? Loved that one.

God that flip was ugly! And I'll bet she helped screw up the ozone layer putting hair spray on that flip.
