This had to be VERY uncomfortable for the group, as it was John Phillips writing about Denny Doherty's affair with HIS WIFE, Michelle Phillips...from Denny's point of view! Just another "pop song"...hardly! Still, it is my favorite M & P song.

Most would pick probably "California Dreamin", "Monday, Monday"
but, THIS is m all-time favorite
by the Mamas & the Papas.

@flanative67 Yes, you're right, she was the wife of Mamas&Papas producer Lou Adler but she never could come closer to Michelle.
-
@caravaggio31 Probably Jill Gibson, Michelle's replacement after John fired her.

The most prominent Feature in this Song, is during the Riff, before the 2nd time the Bridge is Sung, Denny comes in too soon and blows his Cue. He continues on, thinking it will be Edited out later. NO WAY!!! A further implication of John teaching Denny that me made a mistake, Fooling Around with his Wife. Add that to the fact that he made them Sing it at every Gig, really let them know how hurt he was. Hence, the beginning of the War between The Mamas and The Papas.

i sometimes watch on tv movies and other shows that were on before rock and roll music sprung up (particulary the mid '60s onwards) and am amazed at the complete difference between the pre rock and roll era world and the world after rock and roll. Its like watching 2 different planets with different creatures. In such a short space of time ( relatively) , say comparing 1948 to 1968 for example, that 20 year period. gees what a change. mind blowing stuff.
