In this video, Prof J A K Tareen, Vice Chancellor, Pondicherry University, talks on the need to have equity and equality in higher education. Citing the recent reports, he argues that out of 31,000 colleges in the country, hardy 1200 are women colleges. Prof Tareen insists the need to create more educational institutions for women and recommends that 500 more women colleges are to be started now, and the same number of colleges to be added in every Plan period. He also argues in favour of starting 25 more Women Universities fully funded by the Government of India. Prof Tareen further argues the need to protect the educational interests of Backward Communities, Dalits and Minorities.
