Stuttering depends on practise and confidence.
Read books ALOUD everyday for at least 30-60 mins, and be confident when reading it,breathe in good amount of air when reading. This WILL help.

An honest opinion from a fellow stutterer..not all stutterers have the same capabilities...some might be able to lessen their stuttering using medications, therapies, hypnosis, breathing technique..but others are not..and I included in the later...I have tried numerous ways ans still I stutter..and till now I have jump into conclusion..that I am a useless person...I am useless because I am stutter..and useless person will not have future..I am not joking..I am stutterer myself..

I'm 13 nearly 14 and my worst fear is being called on in class to read a passage. It kills me to think about it

The thing I most hate about my stutter is that it usually only happens when I'm talking to someone I don't know well, and I can't say my name because it starts with the letter "G".

i hate when its almost my turn to read. my stuttering is a huge problem and it ruined my social life. i even dropped out of skool twice. stuttering had a big part to do with dropping out but luckily i charmed by way back... and now i just read alot thinking that if i get myself smarter it will help but my confidence has increased only for it to be shot down again once i remember that i still have not overcome my stutter...

Thank you so much. I'll give a try!
Okay, I have a question, that I searched everywhere for information on and found absolutley nothing. Anyway, I have trouble being able to phyiscally speak when trying to say "hello" on a phone, or when trying to say "here" when a teacher checks the roll for a class, and when trying to speak on an intercom, either due to nerves or whatever. It's not really studdering, but more just trying to get the sound out in the first place.

@jreily88 Hello. You know, there are times when I'm in a low mood (which we all go through from time to time) that I have a hard time saying certain letters or words on the phone or when using for example an automated service. This physical difficulty may depend on, among other things how one feels at the moment, and especially the subconscious memory of the difficulty in saying those words. I recommend in addition to the other tips in my videos, saying the name in a different voice.

@jreily88 In other words, change your voice as if you were acting a little and try saying the word or words then. Also, realize that you CAN say that words. It is physically possible, it's just that you have had a difficult time in those situations saying it. But now you're going to work on saying it more fluently. Then practice saying whatever you have difficulty with until it becomes smoother. This is what I have been doing, and while a challenge, it does work.

Soo just sharing.. They say if you don't stutter when you're talking to yourself then it's probably a confidence issue rather than a physical one. I also stutter less when I read, sing, or try to do an impression - about the same as King George VI in the King's Speech towards the end. I stutter more when I suddenly have a lot to say, or when I'm having a conversation with someone who speaks faster cos I try to keep up with them..

@arnold08 You are on to something Arnold. An impression is what I call Modeling. This does a couple of things. It distracts you from thinking about or focusing on stuttering. And it gives you a "model" of good speaking to mimic. Both of these are excellent ways to develop an excellent pattern of speaking. Confidence is critical. Some people have told me that when they feel confident, they speak better. In at least one of my videos I discuss some ways to boost your confidence. Thanks.
