I have been to Haiti twice since January 12 when a huge majority of the country was devastated by a 7.0 earthquake. I spent my time there in a village called Guibert where the organization I traveled with, Hope for the Hungry, has a boys' home for orphans. Both trips have focused on rebuilding in different aspects. The first trip involved building classrooms and repairing a church roof. The second trip was spent roofing new homes. Haiti, and specifically the village of Guibert, has captured my heart. Everything about Haiti is beautiful. The mountains are breath-taking and the people are beautiful yet you look around and see destruction and poverty everywhere. It is such a stark contrast. It often brings me to tears, but then I remember the stories of redemption that I have seen in my time there. God is beginning to heal Haiti. He is their hope of a better tomorrow, their joy in the worst of circumstances, and their courage to continue on. The people of Haiti are God's children, and He is never going to leave or forsake them. I hope this video can give a glimpse of God's faithfulness and why Haiti has captured my heart.
