In the episode we isolate bismuth metal from a few bismuth tablets. To crush expectations, it is cheaper to buy bismuth then to use this method. for a 5 dollar 480ml bottle, theres is 4 grams of bismuth. by the time you spend that you can buy 4 ounces of bismuth for the same amount.

  • Does the liquid Pepto-Bismol work the same?

  • @98JMA it'll work fine. the only difference between the two is that one has a binder to make it into the pill/tablet and the other is suspended in liquid. same basic chemicals though

  • Is the salicylic acid in the stuff that was initially filtered out, or still in the filtered solution?

  • @coolsciencetech it is left in the final solution. you'll know your doing it right is the final solution is slightly yellow

  • jeez there are a lot of metal extractions lately. I am so going to do this!! have you tried to melt the bismuth?

  • Be sure to leave the price tags on all your lab glass, it makes you look like a noob.

  • How long did it take for the aluminum to react?

  • @JerryGiesler09 If anything, it would be single replacement because we're reacting a compound with an element (aluminum)

  • Yes, just let me grab my bottle of HCl I happen to keep handy >_>

  • That's waaay too much chemistry for one head to comprehend. Just torch or bake it in a crucible to burn off the organic content. Won't that work???

  • why dont you just start out in a bigger beaker so you dont have to change beakers?

  • Is this a double-displacement reaction involving aluminum foil?

  • will the bismuth metal solidify and crystalize?

  • @TheChemlife What reaction will you use, though? Just being curious.

  • @elementcollector1 look at my other video.... i make neodymium chloride. ill use it to make neodymium

  • Where are you isolating the neodymium from, magnets? How would you do that? (Working on an element collection)
