I will always think that Lawrence Tibbett was the ultimate Escamillo, but Pinza is really special here. He has the boastfullness aplenty, but in the soft passages of "L'amour" he catches the sensuality and sexiness, too.

Considering this was not the best conditions for recording an onstage performance, Pinza shines in this. His rich voice is unmistakable. Thanks for posting this.

I have heard and read about Pinza's Escamillo for at least thirty years, but this is the first opportunity I've had to hear it. Excellent, even if his top Fs are a little flat:). Then again, Pinza admitted in his autobiography that he always had trouble with high notes. And the voice's size, richness and generally excellent technique, as heard here, are beyond reproach. For posting, merci beaucoup!
