This, the olde school song, is very evocative, being representative of those magical far off days-we were so innocent then. The buildings have long gone and are replaced(as many are)by a housing estate! The song and words reflect an era when teachers tought and pupils listened/learned-not at all like the somewhat chaotic days of contemporary school life. The song is sung by a talented group of lady vocalists, ably led by Kathryn Cavender and accompanied by Nick Lawrence on the piano. The rendition is a bit slower than I remember the French teacher(just what was his name) playing it in assembly-but it gives us a chance to hear the words, which are so important. Happy, innocent, carefree days. I have redone this-lightened the Photo of the building and included a more recent re-uninon photo and one(attended by two teachers-one a sprightly games master,Mr Fairclough) taken of the whole school in 1960-are you on it-do you recognise yourself?
I`m on it-front row just right of the tree in the background.
I well remember, even now, the whir of the clockwork panaramic camera on the tripod as is gradually photographed us all-we had to keep very still.
My sister,Kathleen, and my mum, Edith also attended(not at the same time)I hasten to add!?
The photo of me is taken at this time-I remember my mother chastised me for pulling a loose bit of wool in my new school cardigan(you can see the results!) Allen Warrender
thanks Janey,
these were magical times, although we didn`t realise it then.
Life was so innocent-values of caring, actions, respect, self respect, disipline and the general way the community functioned was different that today`s insular society of low standrda in all areas where money is the onl;y altar that many worship at !
