An introductory guide to using Photoshop Actions to batch process time lapse images.

This tutorial uses Photoshop and Sony Vegas (although any major NLE will work just as well...).

  • I'm having trouble with the new masks I'm creating. After I create a new layer like you do in the video it all works fine, but once I start the batch process, the masks lose their values and the Levels I created apply now to the whole picture, and not just my selection. Its as if when i start the batch process all the layers disappear and all the adjustments and put on the entire picture.

Do you know what could be wrong?

Thanks a lot for the video!

  • @eddenram1 Hi. It's difficult to say without seeing exactly how you're setting up your action. Are you flattening the image (using Layer>Flatten Image) between steps and/or at the end of the action just before saving? If not, this might help. Let me know if that makes a difference.

  • this is my bible. thank you!

  • @eddenram1 Such a nice thing to hear! Thank you. :-)

  • This is great, nicely paced, and perfect diction, with very 'Oliver Postgate' sound about the delivery. And informative of course.

  • @cameraman618 Oliver Postgate! That is the single greatest compliment anyone has ever paid me. :-) Thanks!!

  • @eddenram1 Never mind got it! Turns out you can't use the quick mask function because it doesn't save the selection you've created. Thanks anyways for your help!

  • @firstcreativeltd no I've been flattening at the end before the save. The problem is that the black selected area in each of the new layers disappears after I start the batch process...

  • @Maxcielle Thanks!

  • Very nice video! Thanks!
