A lender's requirement that an inspecting architect certify that a condo project was built in accordance with the plans and city codes theoretically provides some protection to condo buyers.
Home inspector Tom Corbett, as part of a longer discussion with YoChicago's Joe Zekas, contends that inspecting architects too often don't know or understand what they're looking at.
I understand your discussion. Inspecting architects for banks are not the ones who should speak up regarding life safety and the such. They are there to see if the amount of work complete is in place and not for the purpose of code compliance. Insurance companies will limit how much an inspecting architect will extend liability.
You are pinpointing the fact that educational systems do not provide enough. Working in the field must be mandatory. That is the only place you learn.
