This is another fugue I wrote, from a collection of independant preludes and fugues for solo keyboard. It's a three-voice study in the key of C sharp minor. Enjoy!

  • You are very good. Do you have absolute pitch? What do you play? When you compose, do you compose the major instrument first and then the accompaniment, or both? When did you start composing?

  • @ivanUshline No, I do not have absolute pitch. I play classical guitar. When I write sonata, chamber or symphonic works I write for all instruments at the same time, usually building from the ground up, harmonically. I started composing when I was 16 years old. I'm 40 now. Thank you for your interest, and thank you for the compliments. God bless. Paul.

  • Very cool stuff Paul. We need to all chip in and buy you that proper harpsichord! But then you'd have the joy of keeping the dear thing in tune.

  • Haha! Keeping it in tune would only be one problem. These pieces are way beyond my skill on the keyboard. Someone else would have to perform them!

  • Excellent!!! I love it!!! Keep up the good work. If I had heard this in the context of music actually composed in the Baroque I would have gone nuts trying to figure out who this was because it fits right in the Baroque style.

  • Thank you! I appreciate the feedback.

  • your very good at writing these fugues, tis a gift from the gods! love the modulations in this one, the embellishments are also very nice.

  • a rly long theme

  • You've got such a great subject on this piece

  • i always say in my Music College, Paul west is a great composer of our days, he has the art of the baroque

  • I totally agree with kllndrk, this piece is absolutely wonderful! Very interesting!

I really love this. Fantastic 5*****

  • Nice work.

The subject is appealing, and you keep it alive without it ever getting corny. This piece took a couple of turns that really shocked me, but in a positive sort of "Wow, really?" sort of way (as opposed to an "No...why did he do that?" sort of way).

Intriguing stuff. You're lucky to have a mind creative enough to bring this sort of stuff to life, and we as listeners are lucky that you're kind enough to share it with us afterward!
