  • The only problem, as far as authenticity goes anyhow, is that the Zero could not reach a B29's cruising height.

  • It could happen judging from the fact that from that distance a 20mm cannon would tear up any bomber, but it is also highly unlikey judging from the fact that the B-29's like 12 .50 cals are taking a pot shot at a flying gas tank with no protection what so ever. Either way.

  • The B-29 would never fly that low unless it had damage or mechanical problems, nor would it fly alone. The Japanese only had a few plane that could catch a B-29 above 20,000 FT. Above that, the 29's could outrun anything the Japanes had exept the "Tony", which only saw limited service. My Dad was 29 crewman in WWII

  • BOOOO ZERO SUCKS B-29 FTW THAT BOMBER WOULD KICK ITS ASS

  • @BenjaminNicholaus Imperial Nippon's first answer to the B-29 was the Ki-44 Shoki or "Tojo" . Able to climb and intercept B-29's it had poor visibility and handling with electrically fired ammo prone to jam-- pilots generally hated it. Ki-44's still were able to knock down some of these bobmers

  • You're right, but you have to think about a couple of things. The Zero's cannons are MEGA inaccurate (You'd have to get within 500 feet to even hit a ginormous bomber) and their other guns wouldn't have hurt it whatsoever. By the time they were in damage range, turrets would allready have them lit up.

It's happened before, once or twice, and an ace who downed one actually lived untill 2002-2003. He even mentioned something about how it was "Suicidal to attack a fortress". Smart man lol.

  • @IanHunedoara8 One of my favs in Pacific Fighters is the KI-81c with its wickedly powerful 20mm canons! It throws the plane around liek a toy but with practice, I've shredded B-29s at ranges outside their own bristling .50s! Get too close and it's a bit more of a fight. I have taken down B-29s in an A6M2 before. You are more vulnerable, but it can be done. However, there's nothing like engaging the enemy on your own terms!

  • @peepeevagi When the genocidal warfare against the Japanese population was waged, the B-29 was not operating anywhere near its ceiling. In fact, it was flown at dangerously low altitudes. Survivors recounted seeing the bombers glowing overhead reflecting the light of the firestorms they caused. So, it is possible that a Zero could have pwned a B-9 at 5,000'. Sadly though, it didn't happen that often. Too bad they didn't have lots of guided missiles!

  • I'm surprised you didn't get chewed up. I can't hang that close to a bomber without taking several hits. That's why I boom and zoom and use slashing attacks. In and out before they can get a solid lock on me.
