Can you really buy or build a solar oven for $5? Yes, you can. My sister hit up the local dollar store and got everything she needed to build a $5 funnel solar oven. If you are on a budget or just want to try something new and fun make yourself a funnel solar oven and have some fun.

  • You guys got me to thinking. A space blanket I think would also work.and if it would a space blanket could be carried any were. and set up to cook food with.in a survival situation

  • @mogges1 Interesting idea. Give it a try.

  • great video

  • @gedking8871 Thank you.

  • how long can it take to cook!?

  • @deadlyyellowrose That depends on what you are cooking, how much, the container, how much sunshine, etc.

  • This is my favorite type of solar cooker.

The horizontal mode (like your video) is for when the sun is lower in the sky. The vertical position (which needs a bucket to support it) is for when the sun is more directly overhead.

I put mine in the back of my truck, on picnic tables, next to my blanket at the beach or anywhere I will be for 2-3 hours.

  • I was just thinking aluminum foil would work but this is much easier and cheaper than replacing foil. Maybe the hole in the bottom is for air flow for even cooking? Can't wait to try this!

  • very creative....

I've tried this in the past using mylar reflective sheets found at an art or hardware store and plain cardboard :-)

  • that's pretty awesome!

  • The cooling rack isn't to get sun on the bottom of the pan; it's to keep the sunshade from melting.

  • @luvintherawlife Both ways work. Find what works best for the dish you are preparing. Glad to hear you eat raw. That is the best.
