  • Interesting. Allen and Ralphs weren't around for this one on the album. Nice to see Ian finally sling a 4 string over his shoulder.

  • Ralphs did help write it, though -- uncredited. Read Overend's account of the writing of "Born Late 58" in Campbell Devine's biography of Mott The Hoople.

  • Was Ian playing bass?

  • Yes, he was.

  • I don't see the image you're speaking of on this video. There's something like that on the video for Angeline. Is that what you mean?

  • Mick vs Ariel...

    are you people crazy?

    IT IS MICK RALPHS!!!

Luther was a completely poor substitute.

    He simply couldn't solo.

  • Ian played bass for Freddie Fingers Lee when he broke into the music business in the early sixties.

  • For the Ralphs v. Bender crew.

The fact that Bender was the better bloke can be heard here...no screech of the lead in the beginning and mid riffs of this as ol' Ariel put 'em on "The Hoople" recording.

  • Watt's in top form with Ian on bass... priceless.
