The fact that Bender was the better bloke can be heard here...no screech of the lead in the beginning and mid riffs of this as ol' Ariel put 'em on "The Hoople" recording.

Interesting. Allen and Ralphs weren't around for this one on the album. Nice to see Ian finally sling a 4 string over his shoulder.

Ralphs did help write it, though -- uncredited. Read Overend's account of the writing of "Born Late 58" in Campbell Devine's biography of Mott The Hoople.
