Apparently, American's Boeing 767s will be retired to the desert before very long, too.
American's entire fleet, including their Eagle subsidiary, contains planes with no more than two engines right now, and it will stay that way for the forseeable future. If you are an Aadvantage member and you want to fly on a Boeing 747, or on an Airbus a340 or an a380 and still earn miles, you will have to fly with a Oneworld partner that has those planes.

AA is only retiring 11 out of the 124. The entire 757 fleet at AA isn't going away completely for at least another 10 years.

@HWVISP89 Majority of their 757's age 16 to 22 years old, they should all be gone way before next 6-8 years. The young batch only 10 years old , they should have at least another 10-12 years more to go.

@linjeflyg from a DIE HARD Boeing 757 fan, if they're maintained right, the newer ones have a solid 15-20 years left. The airline's just too stubborn to recognize a quality aircraft when they see one. Not just AA, but all of them.

@kelan930 Total agree, 757 is a solid and dependable aircraft. With high price of Jet fuel, the fuel saving of operating new jets may out weight the acquisition cost in the long run.
