  • People say Mark Spitz is the greatest ever but any distance swimmer knows that Selnikov is in a class by himself.

  • Salnikov is an absolute legend. The Psychological barrier of being the first to break first 400m and then 1,500 lc f/s is incredible. In Seoul when he returned to the Olympic village he got a standing inovation from all athletes from all nation present, such was the magnitude of his feat. Thank you so much for posting this video. Does anyone know what this man is doing now? For more info check out the International Swimming Hall of Fame website.

  • @zhman93 This is absolutely true.

  • @mgolin poov no... popov, excuse me :)

  • @mgolin spitz only had 1 good year... 1 good week indeed... poov, salnikov, phelps, thorpe ...they have been the greatest ever... swimmers winning about 10 years, year after year...

  • @matador7686 Can't agree more.

  • @mgolin lol Spitz lol, try being a legend at two Olympics, not just one.

  • This is really rare..anybody have Moscow and Montreal Swimming? I'd like to see those.

  • they should make his story into a movie ,if you ask me

  • @thebrainyouneed ??? EPO ???

  • @thebrainyouneed EPO. But yeah. It's not very common, as they have ways to test it, and most long distance swimmers are, ethically, very honest. Runners, not so much. Many Kenyans from the 90s were proven to have used EPO, and many were stripped of their medals. In addition, the 1500m run 2008 olympic gold medalist used EPO, and lost his medal.

  • my coach told me a story about him how he bet his car and house on some race and he won it
