Inspector General's Office of the Department of Education apparently now operates similarly to SWAT. Kenneth Wright of Stockton California found himself face to face with this law enforcement unit, which operated similarly to SWAT in an all too violent way. He was woken up at 6am, dragged out of the house, and he and his 3 children were detained all because of overdue student loan payments!
@Foreshadow44 The issue is not that he committed a crime and was arrested for it. It is the way they went about it and that they have this whole extra "law enforcement" agency that is owned by banks essentially.

It could be that he obtained a Pell grant or something like that based on false information and if you read the fine print that is a crime so it is not the loan it is the information used to obtain it that was the crime. The government does not operate like the mafia if you don't pay your student loan debt. You merely default and instead they use other means like eating up your available credit, bad score, etc. If you look at your credit you'll see your worth an amount that is limited.
