Thought these two items might be of some interest to devotees of Police radio scanning etc.
The first news grab is from way back on 9th. March 2000 & is from ATN 7 News ( footage is an ATN studio copy I obtained, hence good quality video for the time ) concerning problems VKG were having with the genesis of their digital radio network, the NSW Police Force did not fully complete their digital roll out until June 2006 !
The second half of this news grab is from 13th. August 2007 & is courtesy of TCN 9 News & is of current concern regarding the reported 74 stolen Police radios, amongst other gear.
I suppose the stolen radios are not going to be a security problem for Police as unlike the old Analogue network, APCO 25 digital radios are capable of having a "remote kill code" sent to them thus disabling the units for unauthorised use, but one has to ask The NSW Government & Police why these reported 74 radios would have been stolen in the first place, unless the perpetrators had some very serious "de-kill code" soft & hardware, who ; one could also ask would have such access ? Or perhaps the felons are using these radios as door stops ? lol.
As for the other gear, surely the NSW Police use spray on micro dots for their, or should I say OUR property, as in the NSW taxpayer ? The Police would use such anti theft technology....I mean wouldn't they ??? I reckon questions should be asked in The House !

  • yeah same here, 74 radios XTS3000/5000's. thats ridiculous. I would settle for one, even if it wasnt working its a $1200 radio brand new. I bet the coppers are the ones pinching them and saying they lost them in a scuffle or on duty somehow

  • Could be a problem that a lot of agencies are doing - using their old VHF towers for the digital antennas. Digital doesn't go that far, and you cannot pick it up at the disance you could VHF. The packet loss in the digital is too great to decode properly

  • Damn, 74 P25 radios!! I'd settle for 1 and my life would be complete.
