My 1999 Persian Gulf Deployment #8: Dubai, United Arab Emirates - going shopping

These videos are from my first deployment to the Persian Gulf, June-Dec, 1999. I was aboard HMCS Regina which was a part of a US Battlegroup headed by the USS Constellation aircraft carrier.

We stayed in Dubai for two weeks, we were repainting the ship. Know what I did while in port? NOTHING! I always regretted that and when I went back in 2002, I did a bunch of tourist stuff like riding a camel, 4 wheeling in the desert and had a meal while watching a belly dancer and smoking the water pipe out in the desert. There was just flavoured smoke in the pipe. Really! There's video of the whole thing, you'll get to see it.

I did go to a bbq hosted by Canadians living in Dubai. Maybe it was because I had been on a ship filled entirely with guys for months at this point but all the video I have of the entire evening was girls at the bbq. One of the guys was an architect for the Jumeirah Beach hotel. That's the one beside the Burj Al-Arab, the one shaped like a sail. He took us on a late night tour of "his baby" that wasn't all that interesting. That was it, for two weeks. I'm a little annoyed at myself for not taking advantage of the opportunities available while I was there.

I enjoy how you put in some jokes and really capture the city the way it is, not been bias, but actually given us audience to see the city the way it is.

I watched the entire 11 videos and also your dog is absolutely adorable. However I felt at the end the cattle kind of got really annoyed and it was getting pretty close.

hehe the poor American guy, I noticed you always made sure to tag the American guys in your videos so they know he is not canadian lol
