Gundam was based around WWII and being anti-war, pro peace and harmony. While I can imagine a world without an A-Bomb, it would've been far worse with a Soviet takeover which was planned a little after. It was fundamentally unethical and wrong but worse things could have happened had it not been dropped. Communist takeovers, fighting to the death ,impoverished peoples.... it would have been a far more gradual recovery and the art that woudl have arose would be depressing if it xistd

has been held for ransom due to being dependent on foreign oil. Japan was ultimately the winner of the war for the long run as it jump-started a nation full thrust into the future and it looks like it won't stop for some time. It might have slowed down from the recession, but the East will dominate the next century as the brain power is steadily moving there and thus will be a world different than what we will be comfortable with at first as long as people keep on messing up.
