Excuse the quality of the footage. This flip is on its last legs and will be replaced soon. My thinking in this case was that we were better off with some footage to share with our friends and family than none at all. The footage was shot from a boat on Mosquito Lagoon approximately 12 miles from the launch pad. There were 6 of us on board. Matt (thanks man!) shot the video we see here and I shot stills of the event; here is the set on flickr:

And here is the official NASA video (WOW!):

Space Shuttle Mission: STS128
Discovery Readies for Station Resupply Flight
Space shuttle Discovery will carry the Leonardo supply module to the International Space Station during STS-128, along with a new crew member for the station, Nicole Stott.

Commanded by veteran astronaut Rick "C.J." Sturckow, the STS-128 mission crew will deliver refrigerator-sized racks full of equipment, including the COLBERT treadmill, an exercise device named after comedian Stephen Colbert.

Stott will take the place of Tim Kopra, who moved into the station during STS-127. Pilot Kevin Ford and Mission Specialists Patrick Forrester, Jose Hernandez, John "Danny" Olivas and Sweden's Christer Fuglesang round out the crew.

  • go, crhrille go! ;O)

  • Nice! I loved the commentary about "building your own space shuttle" and the responses. :) I saw Discovery go up in the daytime on STS-121 in person and the vision just hangs with you for the rest of your life.

  • wow...Great !!!

  • With the cloud in the way, I'm shocked you were able to get so many incredible shots. It seems like it took forever for the sound to hit you.(Aprox. 75 seconds!) Thanks for sharing this!

  • good job man
