Falcons Come From Behind and Down Dematha, 5-3
For the first time in over two years, the GC Falcons defeated the Stags of Dematha at Bottegal field, 5-3. Jake Taylor, RHP, 1B, 2010 (Radford) and Kyle Riffe, RHP, 3B, 2010 (Navy) squared off against each other on the mound. Riffe helped his own cause in the 4th inning with a 3-2 count, 2-run HR over the RF fence to make it 2-0 Stags. Dematha third baseman, Chris Sella, 3B, 2010 added to the lead in the same inning taking a hanging curveball over the RF fence to make it 3-0 Dematha heading into the bottom of the 4th. But, the Falcons answered quickly in the bottom of the 4th. Carter Bidwick, 2B, RHP, 2011 tallied his 6th homerun in 7 games with a towering 3-run shot over the LF fence to
put the Falcons into the lead for good, 4-3.

Taylor and Riffe each went 5 innings. Falcons offensive support included singles by Kevin Stein, 3B, 2011, Brandon Grove, 1B, 3B, 2010 (UNCG), AJ Bowman, DH, 2010, and TJ Brockway, C, 2011 with a double to RF to start the bottom half of the 6th (and two sac bunts). Kyle Porter, OF, 2010 (FL Gulf Coast CC) provided 2 key RBIs on a single and a sac fly. George Smith, Jr. OF, RHP, 2010 (LaSalle) was hit by pitch twice in the game and Porter's sac fly RBI added a valuable insurance run in the bottom of the 6th to make it 5-3. Danny Martinson, RHP, C, 2012 provided solid relief on the mound shutting down Stag hitters and playing nifty defense starting a 1-6-3 double play on an attempted a sacrifice bunt. Martinson and the Falcons defense protecting the lead with 1-2-3 innings in the 6th and 7th to close out the game.
