First shots are made in 1937 - winners of the 3rd Chopin piano competition (Yakov Zak, Rosa Tamarkina, Tatiana Goldfarb and Nina Emelianova) returning back to Moscow.
There is also a rare film of 17 years old Tamarkina playing for Alexander Goldenweiser in his class room.
Everything is staged (don't forget terrible historic period in Russia at that time) but playing is wonderful!

  • Andre - what a treat to see Tamarkina playing! Thank you so much. (:-o)

  • If I am not mistaken Tamarkina plays the mazurka Op.50 No.2 in A flat major. I would love to listen to Mazurkas by Tamarkina....

  • This makes me so sad. All these great people destroy by war. They were wonderful wonderful people. I think Hitler should have been appeased. The world would have been a better place. 9/11 is the same. The world has become even worse since then.

  • @truecrypt

There is a video of H. Neuhaus playing Scriabin in iloveclassicalmusic channel... I got deeply impressed when I saw it the other day...

Truecrypt, please, DO the miracle and find a video of Sofronitsky playing! There must be one, somewhere, it is not possible that HE dissapeared forever!

  • @askdhg

I hope gareththefireman will answer your question...

As for this clip, - I found it on one of Russian sites. Unfortunately there are very few video documents related to classical musicians. For example I haven't seen ANY video with Sofronitsky... and he was one of the greatest Russian pianists. Russian archives used to be huge but poorly maintained. We can expect some miracles...

  • @gareththefireman Who was she? Maybe I now her...

By the way, truecrypt, where you´ve found this film? Maybe you can find more films like this?!

  • Oh~,what a precious film!!

Rosa Tamarkina was a first wife of Emil Gilels.

It is a pity that Tamarkina died only 30y.o. by cancer.

She was beautiful and talented woman.

  • Magnificent archiving! Thank you for this fabulous footage. Thrilling.

  • I love Tamarkina's playing...so natural and her sound is glorious! Thank you so much!
