5 Cent Coffee is a SF Bay Area trio that plays what they term as "Neo Skiffle Junkyard Blues" - meaning that they use sparse jug band style arrangements to play old sounding Americana-infused blues and early music. They play a range of styles in their original material and their covers are clever renditions of things as diverse as Prince and Bowie, to Tom Waits and Blind Willy Johnson. Often entertaining because their set list is so varied - you'll never hear three songs in a row that sound the same. Their original material has great lyrical content and power. The ballad called "Cane Cutter" for instance is played simply on a pan, a length of chain, and upright bass - yet it is engaging and chilling.

The released an album "Bourbon and Beans" in 2008 and are gearing up for a new release in the winter or early spring of 2010.
