I interviewed Hu Jie in early March 2010. Although he suffers petty harassment from the authorities he is alive and well and living in south China. He has completed two films since the Lin Zhao documentary: Though I Am Gone (2006), which is on YouTube in a subtitled version; and East Wind Farm (2008), which unfortunately is yet to be subtitled. He has done quite a few interviews since 2004, which you can find by googling his name.

He has made a bunch more films out, actually. He continues to make interesting documentaries and lives and works in China.

He made another documentary titled "Though I am gone" later (it's on youtube). I saw him personally in Hong Kong in January 2008 at the screening of this film at the Chinese University - so it's not that his later fate and whereabouts are unknown.
