One of the most unknown instrumental bands (trio) from the early sixties with cheap Hofner and home-made guitars and 10Watt amps. They had more dynamic power than most instrumental bands with Fender guitars and expensive equipment.

The Scorpions (power trio) were formed in 1959 in Battersea, South West London and released two singles in 1961. Founder members were brothers Ted Barber (Hofner Senator guitar with home-made tremelo arm + Watkins Westminster 10Watt Amp.); John Barber (home-made bass + Selmer Truvoice TV10 Amp.) and Ivor Knight (Ajax drumkit)
Their version of "Riders in the sky" was recorded in January 1961 and released on the Parlophone label.

  • Best version I've heard. How about that sound!

  • I love the sound of Hofners and British valve amps of the day..Watkins Selmer, Elpico, Reslo mikes...where would British Rock n Roll be without them? See my posts ..Ajax kit Elpico amp, Hofner Committee..I was born when all this was happening..but man I'm totally obsessed with it all!!

  • Nice to see that this is back on Youtube. I did download it a while ago, and I have also uploaded it. It's a shame as the first upload had almost 300,000 hits.

Why on earth does Youtube see uploads like this as a threat?
