I think if Qui Gon was still alive for episode 2-3, he would of been powerfull in the force and with a lightsaber as Mace Windu and Yoda. There would be a garentee that he would of make a huge impact on the Jedi Council by instantly revealing that Palpatine is Sith much earlier.

keep in mind that qui gon was supposed to be about 70 years old when that fight took place... also his fighting style ataru was designed for wide open spaces, not the confined area in which he died... also obi wan was consumed by anger and darth maul was quite over confident, both of those reasons contributited to obi wan beating maul, who was a superior swords man

anikin hasn´t brought balance to the force in my opinion !? ... rather he imbalanced the force ...
