On October 29, 2009, the Indiana Northeastern Railroad took delivery of 62 cars from Norfolk Southern at Montpelier Ohio. 28 coal loads, 28 empty grain cars bound for South Milford Indiana and six mixed freight. Creeping along at 10 mph the train made it's way into Iniana. The 28 grain cars were cut off at the old junction of the Wabash and New York Central were the coal loads and mixed freight headed north for Hillsadale, Michigan. With an estimated 3600 tons, the ex Reading GP30, ex Sante Fe GP7u and ex Great Northern GP7 had their work cut out for them when attacking the hills north of Angola, Indiana and up into Freemont, Michigan before placing the units into dynamic braking for the decent into Hillsdale. The title explains it all. The mix of first generation and early second generation "geeps" can not be found in many places hauling trains like this. I hope you enjoy my first visit to the INER, but not my last.
