My arrangement of trad. tune "Shenandoah" played on Lawrence Smart 10 string fanned fret mandola/mandolin. Faculty Recital, Berklee College of Music, Boston MA 3-8-11.
@Parf1Fran7 The neck is straight, but the frets are fanned- the scale length is about 1.25 inches longer on the bass side than the treble to allow for a better low end on the bottom...the overall voice is more mandola than mandolin, but the E string scale length is close to mandolin, so the high end isn't tinny and the low end isn't flabby or thunky- I think Lawrence Smart hit it out of the park with this design (developed with Mike Marshall, I think).
A very amazing mandolin, the neck seems curved!!!
