Excuse the poor phone video quality. This is a puzzle box I'm currently building. I'm about half way into the build and it's going pretty good, though taking longer than I expected. I'm about 5 hours in at this point. The plans where purchased from www.homemadepuzzles.co.uk. The have several free puzzle box plans for free as well. Check out the completed box here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nM_FxKZl0Xw

  • I'm thinking on buying the kit, but first I'd like to ask you something. What comes with the kit? I mean wood, tools, glue...

  • @legoearth500 Actually it's just the plans. You'll have to buy the wood & glue. Any wood will work but a readily available wood at many hardware stores is poplar or oak. Use a good wood glue like Titebond. I use Titebond III.

  • Nicely done!

  • @BirdOfParadise777 The PDF plans were only a few dollars. I have the link to his website in the video description.

  • @kraigseder How much do the plans cost for this box? Thanks:)

  • cool vid.

  • hey you sound like jamie from mythbusters

  • @UnderManiac - That sounds like a great idea! Too ambitious is the way to learn in woodworking. I've found that being "too ambitious" is where I really learn new skills and it takes me to the next level. Just get a good thin steel ruler, measure everything two or three times before a cut, and you'll be fine. I screwed up several times with this puzzle box. I even glued it together with a cut wrong so it wouldn't open. Got it fixed though. When you do it take a video, I'd love to see it.

  • @kraigseder I have an idea for a jewelry box, with 3 hidden compartments. One under the inside box, just lift the whole thing out, one in the lid, slide the edges around to open the secret compartment there, and one under the box, have to remove the inner box and slide one inner wall to unlock it, and raise the opposite edge to reveal the slide out compartment. Otherwise, the jewelry box looks like a wood jewelry box including a keyed lock. Too ambitious?

  • Yes I did finish the puzzle box and just uploaded a video showing it. Don't worry about possessing the skills to make the box. Just give it a try and you'll quickly learn the skills. I didn't start wood working until my mid-30s because I didn't think I possessed the skills. I've been doing it now for about 5 years off and on and am still always learning. I've only made two puzzle boxes and they are the most precise wood work I've done yet.
