Mini three axis table made from two cd roms and one floppy drive. A 3 axis controller drives the steppers and Mach3 is the software used. It's too weak to cut anything so I plan on removing the pen and attaching a dvd burning laser to etch text and designs.

  • I used the motors that came with the drive. The machine is too weak to do anything useful. It was done to familiarize myself with generating cnc code and using the software.

  • Detailed instructions or what color wires go to the stepper controller is impossible since there are many different manufacturers who make floppy and CDROM drives. Every one of them is different.

  • It is far too weak to route pcbs. The little machine was something thrown together to figure out how to run the software.

  • Tons of them on ebay. Just do a search for 3 axis controller. The one I use is just like this one: h**p://cgi.ebay.ca/3-Axis-TB6560-CNC-Stepper-Motor-Driver-Controller-Board-/270657761116?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f0475af5c#ht_2983wt_902

  • is there anyway to get a copy of the plans for the Cnc, cause i ave a 1000mw burning laser i want to put on it thanks

  • awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great job,

  • did you use the mini stepper motors found in the rom drive it self or did you up grade them top more precise ones ?

  • You should try it using old printers. Their mechanics are more robust, and motors are stronger.

  • I have a pair of old single sided 5.25" floppy drives, the full height ones. I should look into repurposing the motors and other bits from them.

  • i am from IRAQ

    very goooooooooood

  • I understand but how did you work it out?

  • Looks great, always wondered if this would be possible! Could you tell me in how you find out where each cable from the steppers go into the driver board?

    Thanks
