dir. Daniel Filho, 2004, Brasil / Brazil, 87 min.
Carolina is having the proverbial midlife crisis. Her friend from college days is a famous actress interviewed on late night TV and all Carolina has to show for her life is a devoted husband and four kids. As they prepare to sell the apartment in Rio that they've had for 32 years of marriage, Carolina revisits her youth and converses with the Carolina of college days. At one point young Carolina is appalled at what she finds she has become and vows to change her destiny. In the backdrop of Brazilian political upheaval in the 1960's, we are privy to young, passionate, idealistic love. The Borgian exchange between young Carolina and fifty something year-old Carolina is charming and insightful. Will the Carolinas choose to change their destiny? Marieta Severo and Debora Falabella are both magnificent in their roles and Antonio Fagundes is wonderful as the witty husband who patiently waits out the storm.
