Sharon Smith's 'Subterranean Fire: A History of Working Class Radicalism' is a great, great book. It's an excellent overview of its topic. So glad I found this video. She's one of my many heroes/heroines. Thanks for the upload, PHubb.
IWW forever! The spirit of Wesley Everest! A black cat in your eye!
Wobblie Wesley Everest was murdered in 1919 by members of the American Legion. The American Legion is a group who had Benito Mussolini as its guest speaker at its 1923 convention.
Excellent viewing for anyone who wants to wrap their heads around what happened in those turbulent years. I think the comment in the beginning about the IWW's continued existence is not simply a disclaimer, but indicates the speaker's respect for their work despite her disagreements. I suppose "decline" might have been a better word than "fall" in the title, but I don't think she's being dismissive.
Although we have yet to regain our numbers, the IWW played a role in the rise of industrial unionism in the 30s along with the CIO, (we struck the Hoover Dam construction for example). Defied McCarthy in the 50s, worked with the New Left in the 60s, and continued job actions in the 70s, 80, and 90s, and of course today.
@islandmuffin That sounds like the repubs to me.

I know there was a disclaimer at the beginning about how the IWW isn't dead, but the title's reference to fall is a bit dismissive.
