Written by Rylie Zhang at 19 for her 20-yr old cousin, Li Gen, who has suffered from complete renal failure since 2009. Li Gen's family resided without health insurance in a small town in China, where the astonishing expenses of treatment forced the family to give up Li Gen's spot on the transplant waitlist. Rylie Zhang, who grew up in Canada and pursues undergraduate studies at Harvard University, urgently composed "Life-Light" as a plea to the family to not give up fighting. She then wrote 4 more songs for Li Gen himself to sing, to fulfill his lifelong singing dream that ended abruptly at the news of his diagnosis, merely 3 days before his scheduled appearance on a national vocal competition. Shortly after sending out home-recorded versions of these 5 songs to friends and family, Rylie and Li Gen received two miraculous sponsorships: the first to put Li Gen back on the waitlist, and the second, to record their own music album. In March 2011, Li Gen received a matching kidney for transplant, and in that summer, Rylie and Li Gen produced their debut five-song album entitled "Life-Light, I Love You", to be released online for free, with all donations toward a kidney disease fund Li Gen plans to establish. Through their music, Rylie and Li Gen wish to pay their donors forward by encouraging patients of severe illnesses everywhere to be strong, and to live on with Life and Light.

Little Light

Far off in the distance there is a Light; it is dim but still it shimmers on.

It was long ago but still it seems like yesterday that it was a small spark.

The winds blew and the wick grew short but still it brought life into the dark places.

So in these dim times we must draw even closer because any distance seems to far.

Look into the flame and see how it dances though dim it may be.

Do not fear the dark; only remember how it showed you there was nothing to fear.
