Kolhapur at the Great Central Rothley Jan 1991

Atmospheric video of Jubilee class Kolhapur departing Rothley station on the Great Central In January 1991. For a short period, a GWR Panier tank loco operated a short stock push pull service over the single line from Rothley to Leicester North and back (until a runaround loop was installed there allowing mainline locos to access the line) This train was then marshalled into the last main line train from Rothley of the day for the trip back to Loughborough. Freezing conditions make for lots of steam. So much so that after being given the ROW and whistle from the guard, Kolhapurs crew took a couple of minutes and prompting from the Panier tanks whistle to get the message before settting off in a cloud of steam
