The Library of Congress is the world's largest library. Located in Washington D.C., the Library has over 130 million items collected on over 530 miles of bookshelves. Created as a reference library for Congress in 1800, its mission and reach have significantly broadened over the past 200 years. The Library now strives to make its vast resources available to all of the American people, and it couldn't do that without the Web.
Launched in April 2000, the website, www.loc.gov, serves as a resource through which everyone can learn about history. Past phases of the campaign have been directed at young children and adults. The current campaign targets young adults. The television ads for this phase seem like mini horror movies, but when the villain is revealed, he is a harmless historical figure. They use the tagline, "Think history is a little scary?" followed by, "Log on to see how much fun it can be!"
