Yasur Volcano Erupting - Vanuatu

Mt Yasur volcano erupting at level 4 stage. Shot around the same time the CBS Survivor film crew arrived to take background footage for Survivor Vanuatu. Plenty of lava spraying up and lots of smoke and ash. A truly memorable trip up to the volcano in July 2004 with the team from Friendly Bungalows http://www.friendly-bungalows-tanna-vanuatu.com/ on Tanna Island, Vanuatu.

Oh for goodness sake!!.....Yassur does this all the time. It's been playing for tourists for many many years. It's called mild strombolian activity. One of the safest (as long as you don't get in the crater with it!!).....Active volcanoes in the world.

If I could drop everything and go to Tanna now for a holiday, to see yassur from the top, .....I jolly well would!!

Yasur is also one of the most accessible Volcanoes too. Drive right up to the side of the volcano in a 4WD and walk about 200 metres to the rim. There are no legal disclaimers to sign, no tourist shops, no safety equipment required, just the raw beauty of nature to enjoy!

Very good video. Towards the end I noticed a number of people standing around looking chilly. When I visited Yasur (October 2003) the answer to that was lie on the ground for a while! Plenty of heat seemed to just leak out - another demonstration of Nature's power even if less showy.

Yes it gets quite cool at night but you can just lie on the ground and keep warm. But the ground is quite rocky with rugged volcanic rocks everywhere.

Yes we were right on the rim! No camera tricks here. It's not a Hollywood production. (or a survivor production - where they showed the volcano as if it was right in the background where the "survivors" were staying when in reality it was about 200km away on another Island!)

umm turkey, I am not retard. I study the stupidity of human beings showing off on the scale of trying to impress people thus making a fool. I have seen people on movies get killed. However people who gamble by going up to the mountain to see if its going to blow, THAT person is a retard. Would you go in front of a Kodiak if he is coming at you. Answer that for me Please

To LATE... and it will be obviousily to late. So its a doomed if you are doomed if you don't situation with a very small margin of error.

Anyway. The other thing is money. A government is not going to hand you the money to evac people if you aren't 100% damned sure that people need to evacuate at a specific time and date. And they probably won't give you anymore if eruptions turn out like this one... mild.

Anyway, why doesn't USGS evacuate people.

Well, the problem is faith, danger level, and money.

You can't evacuate people if the situation is truely not life threatening even if it may later. You have to hit that sweet spot of dangerous but not dangerous enough that its possible to evacuate people safely.

If you do it to early... people will lose faith in your predictions and if something Is going to happen, they won't believe you.

Why would anyone go near the mountain when its going off with lava? I think the guy is a retard anyways, I feel that the USGS needs to let him go due to careless work. people who work for USGS needs to alert the public and get the civilians out of the harms way. The pyroclastic cloud can and will turn humans unto burnt chicken meat and kill without mercy.
