ANCHOR:

Despite working hard to convince the world that Chinese food is safe, Hong Kong has now found traces of melamine in some eggs imported from China.

STORY:

The eggs were imported from Chinas northeastern city. Hong Kong asked Beijing earlier this week to investigate how melamine turned up in Chinese chicken eggs.
Tests over the weekend detected melamine in eggs, and the contents are nearly twice the legal limit. This news is further blighting the "made in China" label.
Beijing egg vendor Mr. Qiu says egg prices have dropped by ten percent.
Yet, despite the latest scandal, he says his customers continued to buy eggs.

[Mr. Qiu, Egg Vendor]:

"We are doing alright these days except that the price has dropped
a bit. It is fine. It hasn't been affected much for the time being."

To make the situation worse, there was a rumor last week in Sichuan that ten thousand tons of tangerines had to be destroyed because of fruit fly. This rumor has cost farmers
millions of dollars in lost sales.
Sichuan denies the reports, saying only 12 tons have been destroyed and
that the situation is under control.
Ms. Xiao, a tangerine farmer from Hunan province in central China, says
farmers in her region have suffered large losses.

[Ms. Xiao, Tangerine Farmer]:
"Business is really bad now. It is all because of the fruit flies that hit Sichuan province. The farmers in my hometown Hunan province have suffered great loss."
A stream of food safety scandals have rocked faith in the safety of Chinese products, leaving Beijing consumers worrying over which products are safe to eat.

[Ms. Ma, Beijing Citizen]:
"I am very concerned. After the tainted milk formula came out, I am just wondering what is left safe to eat if the milk formula for babies can have problems. I also heard that tangerines in Sichuan have fruit fly problems, so I just don't eat tangerine any more."
Critics have urged authorities to intensify safety oversight measures
in order to prevent such incidents from happening, rather
than dealing with the consequences once they have broken out.
China has been swept by a series of food and product safety scandals
involving goods as diverse as toys, tires, toothpaste, pet food, fish, beans,
dumplings and baby cribs.

  • calm down over Christian

people use the almighty one's name all the time

besides using once to point out something wrong with society isn't a big deal

  • Fuck you for using Jesus's name in vain.

  • chickens can be fed food tainted with melamine. it enters the bloodstream and builds up over time. it does have something to do with money - the melamine can fool tests into showing that protein levels in products are higher than they actually are, making companies sell more. melamine has no nutritional value, obviously. hope this helped...

  • wait... how can eggs have melamine unless they are ..made?

Jesus these people would do anything for money
