Absolutely divine.
The voice of a goddess, even at this advanced age.
All these sublime performances of caballe's on youtube, must really being helping her record sells too.
Everytime I see a new performance of Caballe on youtube,I want to get my hands on another one of her rare recordings.

@philipc67 There's another one written by Roger Alier in Spanish which I partially read (it's posted through google books). I'll try to get both as new copies, because i hate to buy second hand items.
By the way, very funny what you wrote about Bartoli ("vulgar" and such)...I agree!

Yes, you are correct about the 1985 hypothalamic tumor. The hysterectomy was in 1974, shortly after her famous Orange Norma. The biography is entitled "Montserrat Caballe: Casta Diva", was published in 1994 (in English), authors Stephen Taylor and Robert Pullen. You can look it up on Amazon.com. It is very well written and 99% accurate.

@philipc67 "L Price never sang Salome on stage." But still you can hear her performance of this last scene in onegin65 channel.
Which biography?
An hysterectomy?
The tumor treatment was in 1985; she revealed that to the Spanish press a year later. Although still powerful, she recognized she wasn't the same as 25 years ago, but wanted to prove herself in roles like Medea and Isolde.
She smashed that dish to disguise the fact that it cracked below her weight; it was a funny, theatrical effect.

It's in her biography. The 1988 Liceo production included a rickety tower from which a huge red cloth was spread down, covering the stage. She was supposed to sing the role perched on this platform and only allowed to come down for the final scene. She hated this production and her dislike is visible in the way she smashes the papier mache dish. By the way, she had a hysterectomy in 1974 but the split hypothalamic tumor was not removed. L Price never sang Salome on stage.

@philipc67 There's nothing wrong with her age; she was just 55. Maybe her voice timbre never was the same because of her tumor removal intervention, but she's definitely more believeble than Nilsson or Price.
Where did you learn about that plattorm story?
-
Her last stage Salomes, Dec 88-Jan 89, just before she sang Isolde at the Liceo. She had hated this SALOME production with the platform tower and the balletic doubles. Still, despite her age and size, what a commanding vocal interpretation, even if she attacks the highest notes too aggressively. The voice is really good here. I love the way she smashes the silver dish, which was really stage papier-mache. She first sang Salome in 1958 in Basel, and her 1968 recording with Leinsdorf is superb!

Tebaldi12345....you don't know shit, so shut up. This stuff isn't posted for idiots like you who have no friends and can only manage communication by mouthing off about postings on YouTube. I am quite certain, you have never done anything of any merit in your nothing life!
There's a telecast on here where shes wearin a gold head piece thats waaaay better. shes in better voice and she moves around so much and gets so involved. audio is awful but its def worth hearing. still thanks so much for all these clips!

@moghedien13 I was already aware of that RTVE clip, but this one is a live performance and she's still riveting, not a dubbed revisitation.
And regarding the sound, I'm not responsible; these clips are courtesy of "onegin65", who shares them with all of us. I think we should thank him, no matter in which condition those clips are; better this way than nothing.

Here I agree: far enough from the ¨Bel Canto¨ that she always mistreated on her own sake (pianissimos, pianissimos and more pianssimos, poor composers), on Mozart and Strauss she was great. She learnt it on her first years at Bremen. Later, she found out that Bel Canto was perfect to be... betrayed. But on ghe German repertoire, she was great. Here´s the demostration.

@Tebaldi12345 Bremen...Hahaha!!! You suck donkey's balls, you ignorant! She built her german repertoire in Basel, and in Bremen she just specialized more in "Bel Canto", which she already learnt in her native Barcelona. Youd don't know anything about "bel-canto", or did you ever happen to study every musical-sheet as she did?
