I grew up going to Hop Kee and just recently traveled across the country to visit it. It's always the first place I hit for a meal when I'm home. Gotta say, as much as I don't care for Bourdain, I have to agree with him ... nothing takes me back like an egg roll and (veggie) fried rice. And the flounder is a must. Man, it's hard to get myself up those stairs after my nostalgia feast!

Hop Kee, Wo Hop, and Hop Lee all located on Mott st are very good.

That said, I live in Brooklyn's Chinatown (have for some time now). We usually just stick around here for our eats. Best Dim Sum in the city. Yum Cha biatch!

@FlushingBoyNY You are obviously haven't been to some of the other places than man. My family (via marriage) is from Guangzhou and we hit up plenty of solid authentic Cantonese food in Chinatown. Just because you haven't been to some of these places doesn't mean they aren't there homie.

@cowboynemo May be good, but not cheap. You'll easily drop $100.00 for a family of 4.

This guy could eat shit off the bathroom floor and say it's good.

@ATMfromNJ But hop kee and wo hop are like the best 2, everything else around Chinatown changed so wat are you talking about?

There are more than a few authentic Cantonese restaurants in Chinatown. Don't know what they are talking about.
Like This if you ever been to Hop Kee!

There's a much wider foodie culture now, but what's being said in this video is true. There was/is the bland menu that's served to white people and anyone stuck up about seeing a head or animal foot. And then there's the real menu, served to Asians who love higher end food.
