This is the true story of Pearl, a homeless dog that became part of a search and rescue team through the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. The book was created by Allyn Lee and Connie Forslind's second grade class at Rancho Romero School in Alamo, California. The student's heartfelt illustrations speak for themselves.

  • All of the original books are long gone, but the Search Dog Foundation has copies of their reprinted edition available through their online store. The reprint includes additional photos and Pearl's 2010 ASPCA Dog of the Year award. Proceeds support the important work of training rescued dogs to become rescuers!

  • If anyone would like a copy of the book - we have 20 left, then they will be gone for good! Thanks!

  • Hi Edna,

Thank you! I am very proud to support the Search Dog Foundation. The children and I are looking forward to meeting our special dog!

  • Hi, this is Edna with The Nutro Company.Congratulations! PAW-Some job on raising monies to sponsor a search dog!

    Thanks for sharing! :-D

  • We did it! We have raised $10,000 to sponsor a search dog! Additional orders can still be filled with extra copies - 100% of proceeds go to the Search Dog Foundation to support their important and life-saving work. THANK YOU!

  • Captain Horetski and Pearl are getting to work with the rest of the teams working with USAID in Japan. Updates on their progress are available at the Search Dog Foundation website and Facebook page. 65 more books to go - I would love to report to Captain Horetski upon his return that we have reached our goal of sponsoring the search training of another rescued dog like Pearl, a dog that will help locate and rescue disaster survivors.

  • Pearl and Captain Horetski are on their way to Japan (3/11) with other members of canine urban search and rescue teams. We wish them safety and success in helping survivors of the earthquake and tsunami.

  • 80 BOOKS UNTIL WE CAN SPONSOR ANOTHER WONDERFUL SEARCH DOG! Contribute to the good cause and save more lives - dogs and human!

  • Our book proceeds have reached $9,100. Only 90 books to go! Thank you!

  • We have sold almost 900 books, 100 more to go until we reach our goal of sponsoring a search dog. Please help - another rescued dog will be trained to rescue survivors of natural and manmade disasters. Just go to our website to order books. Thank you!
