This is a scrolling sign configured to instantly show when someone checks into a particular venue on foursquare. I made this to experiment with the foursquare push API but I'm still thinking up ideas for how else I can use checkins. I would love to hear your ideas and feedback!
The code for this project is very rough at this point and could use a lot of optimization. Arduino code: http://pastebin.com/zhqGDHn8 PHP code: http://pastebin.com/J1bndmx0 (you must put the PHP file on an SSL server and point the foursquare push API at it)

They're pretty cheap on ebay because it's old tech that many large companies are doing away with.

I just put a link to the source code in the description. It's still very sloppy, but it works.

Crypto on the Arduino is the most EVIL thing ever! Nothing in the world is more evil than AES on an 8-bit Microprocessor.

This is really cool.....actually I'm working on an application that basically leverages this 4Square "check-in" concept. Currently, the program has to manually check for new "checkins" and it is understandably slower but your video will allow me make my program run faster.....10k you!
