What Happens When You Die?

We don't like to think about death. It's not a pleasant subject, and we avoid even discussing it seriously or giving it any diligent study. If our career plans involved a foreign assignment, our desk would be littered with brochures and travel folders as we would try learn all we could about our forthcoming destination. If we were scheduled for an exam that our lives depended upon, we would be studying in earnest. Yet the most certain event in our future is one we try our best to ignore and attempt to relegate to a comfortable distance.

I once suggested to a financial executive (who was about 50 years of age) whom I was traveling with that he probably had less than a thousand weekends left in his life. He was startled! "What do you mean?" he gasped.

"Do the math," I suggested. With an actuarial expectation of about 20 years left in his life, and with nominally 50 weeks/year, that leaves him with about a thousand weekends. (When we say "twenty years," that sounds remote, academic, intangible. When we think of "weekends," it tends to confront us with a more graspable reality!)

Our appointment with death is an absolute certainty - probably our only certainty. It may come sooner than we expect: a car crash, a stray bullet, an unforeseen stroke. We all know of personal examples where death has come suddenly, without warning, without any preparations. When it finally does come, what do we expect it to be like?

@MATTWITT1976 ...I feel ya brother .....i was just pointing out for others and myself how we become lukewarm over time and forget when we 1st enjoined with the Christ. The joy of our salvation becomes less than it was when we joined up .Words hold the power of life and death....and i say things most of time based on the way i feel -mentally and physically....He shows me daily that my thoughts are not HIS. I long in my heart to meet a BEING in whom no GUILE OR DECEIT IS FOUND

@jayrider420 ..............that you -yourself cant even do .....there is none that do good -not even 1 .Our righteousness is but filthy rags.If I esteem 1 day better than the next or i eat sacrificed food -what pray tell is that to you ?WHO IS SAVED ? THEY THAT ENDURETH TO THE END.......If I concentrate on me enduring --- IT TAKES TIME AWAY FROM BEING ARROGANT AND ABRASIVE TOWARD THE LOST....THAT GOD LOVES AS MUCH AS ME OR YOU.

BELIEVE THAT CHRIST WAS THE SON OF GOD- DIED FOR MY SINS-ROSE ON THE 3RD DAY AND SITS AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER.....only the spirit can lead a man to the grace of God.Empty out those secret chambers of sin in your lives and be transformed to the image of the living GOD...ARE YOU 1 OF THE -"IF YOU AINT GOT IT LIKE ME - YOU AINT GOT IT" are you ? dont scare people from GOD with rules and traditions of men

@Fetrovsky The gospel you speak of crept into the church about 100 years ago .Paul said ,for ME to be absent in the body is to present with CHRIST..WHO IS ME ? Do you have the power that Paul had ? Have you been to the 3rd heaven ?ARE YOU A MARTYR ? This doctrine came about from weak minded preachers tryin to placate the grieving familys they bury at the church buildings. If we are with Christ how can we be raised 1st being dead in Christ?...peace brother...all men are liars,including me

@Fetrovsky OLD TESTAMENT - THE DEAD ARE ASLEEP AND KNOW NOTHING . NEW TESTAMENT - THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE FIRST . NOWHERE IN THE BIBLE DOES IT TEACH THAT . THE "DAY OF JUDGEMENT " WHERE THE SHEEP ARE CUT FROM THE GOATS-SOME TO GLORY AND SOME TO ETERNAL DAMNATION....JESUS PREACHED TO DEAD IN HADES DURING THE 3 DAYS OF THE CROSS.--ON THAT DAY -THEY SHALL SAY LORD WE DID THIS AND WE DID THAT -DEPART FROM ME ! RETHINK TAKING 1 VERSE TO MAKE A POINT

What happens when you die? The Church teaches it very clearly and simply:  You face your personal judgment, where your eternal fate is determined based on your actions, and then you go to Heaven (straight or through purgatory) or Hell.

@DLando I get my truth about anything from the living word of God. Anything else is simply human understanding (or misunderstanding) of the limited reality we live in.
